Trending hashtags, with the why

A hashtag trends because something happened. This site records what is trending and the reason behind it — dated, explained, and archived, so you can look back at any day and see what people were talking about and why.

Latest snapshot: Sunday, November 1, 2026. This is an editorial snapshot, not a live feed. This site publishes no post counts and no rankings, and every tag below is included only because it is tied to a real, checkable event or date. If a tag's driver could not be verified, it was left out. Trends move fast; check the tag on the platform before you use it.

#FallBack, #DaylightSavingTime, #DaylightSaving

Why: Daylight saving time ended at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when clocks fell back one hour to 1 a.m. — the first Sunday in November, the earliest the change can fall. Most of the United States is now back on standard time until daylight saving returns on March 14, 2027.

Use it for: "we gained an hour" posts, earlier-sunset notes, and schedule reminders for Sunday. Note the exception in your post if it matters: Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe the change.

#DayOfTheDead, #DiaDeLosMuertos, #DiaDeMuertos

Why: Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is observed on November 1 and 2. November 1 traditionally remembers children who have died, and November 2 remembers adults. Families mark the days with ofrendas (home altars) holding photographs, favorite foods, candles, and marigolds.

Use it for: ofrenda photos, marigold and pan de muerto posts, and remembrance posts. Keep it distinct from Halloween in your caption: this is a family remembrance observance, not a costume holiday.

#Dakar2026, #YouthOlympics

Why: The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games opened on Saturday, October 31, at the Stade Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio, Senegal — the first Olympic event ever held on African soil. About 2,700 athletes aged 14 to 17 are competing in 25 sports across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, with competition running through November 13.

Use it for: opening-ceremony reactions, athlete and team posts, and results talk as events get underway. Skip it for unrelated content — a sports tag on an unrelated post reads as spam.

#VoteEarly, #Midterms

Why: November 1 is the last early-voting day in several places, including New York City (early voting ran October 24 to November 1) and Connecticut (October 19 to November 1), with the midterm Election Day itself on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Use it for: last-day early-voting reminders and "I voted" posts. Hours and end dates vary by state and county, so point readers at their local election office rather than stating one national window.

#OpenEnrollment

Why: Open enrollment for 2027 health coverage through HealthCare.gov opened on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and runs through January 15, 2027. Enrolling by December 15, 2026 is the cutoff for coverage starting January 1, 2027.

Use it for: enrollment-window reminders and deadline posts. Note that states running their own exchanges can set different dates, so readers should confirm on their state's marketplace.

#Movember, #NoShaveNovember

Why: Two month-long campaigns start on November 1 and run through November 30. Movember asks participants to start clean-shaven and grow a moustache through the month to raise money and awareness for men's health — prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. No-Shave November is a separate campaign with the same skip-the-razor idea, raising money for cancer causes.

Use it for: day-one clean-shave photos, moustache-growth updates, and fundraising posts. Don't mix the two up in your caption: they are separate campaigns run by different organizations.

How this snapshot was built: each driver above was checked against published reporting on the day (the November 1 clock-change date, the November 1–2 Day of the Dead dates, the October 31 Dakar opening and November 13 close, the November 1 early-voting end dates and November 3 Election Day, the November 1 open-enrollment start, and the November 1 Movember start) before the tag was listed. No tag here is based on a guess, a count, or a live ranking. This snapshot is also preserved as the newest entry in the archive.
